Description

The Monument to Cuauhtémoc proudly stands at the roundabout bearing his name, at the intersection of Bulevar Cuauhtémoc and Paseo de los Héroes in Tijuana’s Zona Río. Donated by the state of Guerrero and inaugurated in April 1975, the monument honors the last Aztec emperor, Cuauhtémoc, and was created by sculptor Alfonso Casarrubias Parra. The imposing statue, set on a circular platform within the roundabout, has become a symbolic gathering place for celebrating sports victories, holding social demonstrations, or simply admiring the sculpture—especially when it is lit up at night. It is considered the “traffic heart” of Zona Río and a symbol of historical dignity that attracts both locals and visitors.
