The Monument to General Ignacio Zaragoza stands in one of the most emblematic roundabouts on Paseo de los Héroes in Tijuana’s Zona Río. This equestrian sculpture, inaugurated in 1976, honors the Mexican military hero known for his victory at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, when the Mexican army defeated the French forces. The figure of Zaragoza, mounted on his horse and pointing forward, symbolizes leadership and bravery in defense of the homeland. This monument also holds historical significance for the city, as Tijuana was named "Zaragoza" from 1925 to 1929 in his honor. Located across from the Hotel Lucerna, it has become a landmark and meeting place for residents and visitors. Commonly known as "La Glorieta del Caballito," it hosts various cultural activities and patriotic commemorations.
