Originally the Álvaro Obregón School, inaugurated in 1930, it is one of the city's oldest buildings. On October 15, 1975, it became the city's first cultural center, known as Casa de la Cultura Tijuana, and was declared a cultural heritage of the State in 2014.
The center hosts numerous musical, theatrical, and art exhibitions, featuring a theater, the Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez library, the Benjamín Serrano Gallery, the Literary Café, and rooms for workshops and artistic exhibitions. It attracts around 25,000 visitors annually, including students and spectators.
Casa de la Cultura offers courses in dance, visual arts, music, acting, and literature, as well as disciplines like hip hop, manga, languages, and natural green cooking. In February 2019, it opened an introductory art school in collaboration with the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA). This program introduces children aged 6 to 9 to theater, dance, music, and visual arts over three years, culminating with recognition from INBA and IMAC.
