The Lomas de Matamoros community is one of the largest and most populated settlements in East Tijuana. It is characterized as a predominantly residential and working-class community, whose topography is irregular with steep slopes, befitting its name. Due to its large size and population density, it has its own infrastructure that includes multiple elementary and middle schools, as well as a vibrant local commercial scene comprised of street markets, grocery stores, and various services that meet the daily needs of its thousands of residents. Its development has been key to the city's urban expansion eastward.
