Description

The Panteón Municipal No. 1 in Tijuana, located in the Castillo neighborhood, is one of the city’s most emblematic and historic cemeteries. Although not the oldest, its stories and surrounding legends have made it a place of significant cultural interest. Among its graves is that of Juan Soldado, a popular figure whose tale has been passed down through generations and has become part of local folklore. The cemetery also includes an area dedicated to deceased children, many of whose graves date back to the 1950s and 1960s, serving as a silent testimony to the past. During Day of the Dead celebrations, the cemetery comes to life with offerings and visitors, and guided tours are held to share the legends and history of this unique space, offering a deep connection to Tijuana’s traditions.
